Changing Norms with a generation

About Surround Sound Kenya

Across Kenya, progress in health, education and gender equality has opened new opportunities for young people. Yet many of these gains remain fragile.

When Norms Hold Young People Back.

Many of the barriers young people face are shaped by social norms — the unwritten rules about what is expected, accepted or possible.

Surround Sound Kenya exists to address those root causes.

Our Main Partners

Shujaaz IncShuga GlobalPATH
A group of young Kenyans posing together, representing the audiences reached by Shuga and Shujaaz

Through trusted brands such as Shuga and Shujaaz, young people encounter relatable characters and stories that reflect the realities they face.

These ideas then continue beyond the screen, spreading through peer conversations, youth networks and community dialogue.

Norms do not change because of a single message.

They shift when young people encounter the same ideas repeatedly across the environments that shape their daily lives.

Surround Sound Kenya surrounds young people with consistent narratives through:

Television Drama
Comics
Digital Platforms & Chatbots
Radio
Youth Networks & Community Discussions
